Almaty city tour
GreenX Company is happy to offer a one-day city tour of Almaty with a visit to the key sights of the city: Chimbulak ski resort, Medeo mountain skating rink, ‘golden square’ of Almaty city centre, 28 Panfilovtsev Park and of course Green Bazaar.
Chimbulak ski resort
Chimbulak (‘Shymbulak’) is a popular ski resort located at an altitude of 2,100 metres above sea level, 25 kilometres from Almaty city centre. Chimbulak is known for its mild climate and long skiing and snowboarding season, which lasts from November to April.
Chimbulak offers slopes for different levels of skiing enthusiasts, from green slopes for beginners to black slopes for experienced skiers and snowboarders.
Chimbulak resort entered the Guinness Book of Records as the resort with the highest night ski slope in the world.
The resort has modern lifts and a cable car from Medeo to Chimbulak and further to the peaks. The lifts take skiers to various starting points in the mountains, as well as to the highest point of the resort - the Talgar Pass at an altitude of 3200 metres, which offers a stunning view of the mountains and glaciers.
Chimbulak is home to hotels, restaurants, cafes and equipment rental outlets where skis, snowboards and equipment can be rented. The resort also offers instructor services for those taking their first steps in skiing. Hiking and paragliding are popular in the summer season.
Medeu Ice Rink
Medeo (‘Medeu’) is a legendary high-altitude ice rink located at an altitude of 1,700 metres above sea level, 15 km from the centre of Almaty. It is one of the highest ice rinks in the world and a symbol of sporty Almaty, attracting both locals and tourists.
Medeu is a skating rink that amazes with its scale and the list of international records set. The area of the ice surface of Medeo skating rink is more than 10 thousand square metres, which allows mass skating, training and speed skating competitions. High-altitude location and clean air create special conditions, thanks to which many world records were set here.
The skating rink is open to the public, and regardless of experience, visitors rent skates and spend time on the ice. In the evening the rink is lit up, which adds romance to the atmosphere of this place.
There are locker rooms, cafes and small snack bars at Medeo, where you can warm up with hot drinks and snacks. Routes to Chimbulak also start from the skating rink: a cable car runs between them.
The skating rink was built in 1972 and has been an integral part of Kazakhstan's sporting history ever since. Medeo is known outside the country as a venue for international sporting competitions.
